Partnership with John Howard Society Belleville
Our TAY Connector, Alix Shilton will be the primary contact in our partnership with the John Howard Society Belleville (JHSB)....
The Transition Home provides safe and affordable housing to young people aged 16 – 24 who are looking for a home but are not ready to live on their own yet. The Transition Home Program helps to prepare you for the real world by teaching you the skills you will need to move on to more independent living. The home is staffed 24 hours a day with caring and supportive counsellors who are available to help you with any issue you may have. When you move in, you are paired with a Residential Counsellor who will work with you one-to-one to help you determine how you will reach your short- and long-term goals. They will also work with you on developing the life and social skills you require before you move on to more independent living or return home. Our counsellors can help you explore your options and can also make referrals to Youthab’s housing, mental health, and employment programs or to other community resources.
You will have the opportunity to meet other young people just like yourself. You will also have the opportunity to participate in individual and group workshops such as: healthy relationships, self-esteem, healthy lifestyle, conflict management, and money management.
Even though you are required to be involved in a day program (school or work) our activities go on and on. To name a few, we visit the YMCA, go on day trips, have a coffee house group, board game nights, rock band nights, karaoke nights, and movie nights. There is never a dull moment.
The home provides supportive housing for nine youth; therefore, we have guidelines to keep our home safe and provide a healthy environment for everyone:
